What it adds
Fei Lian is gossip and rumour — the classical star of being talked about, usually inaccurately.
The other half of it is the person's own appetite for expression: strong curiosity, a strong urge to say the thing, and little patience for the conventional route. The tradition reads it as a small echo of The Voice.
Those two halves are related. People who say what they think are discussed more than people who do not.
