The paired star to Solitude: quieter, and more inward.
What it adds
Gua Su sits with Gu Chen in the tradition, and the two are almost always read as a set.
The difference is direction. Solitude stands apart; Seclusion withdraws — the retreat inward after something, rather than the temperament that never went out.
It is not depression and should not be described as such. What it marks is a real need for recovery time and a low tolerance for constant company, which in the right life is not a problem at all.
