The Twelve Palaces

A Zi Wei chart is a ring of twelve palaces, each governing one area of life — self, money, partnership, work, home, and so on. Every chart has all twelve; what differs is which stars fall where.

Read the Self palace first. Everything else is read against it, and a configuration that means one thing under a cautious Self means something else entirely under a Self that moves before it calculates.

Palaces are also read in pairs. Each one sits opposite another, and the tradition treats the pair as a single question asked from two sides: Wealth against Property is earning against keeping; Self against Travel is home ground against away.
