What it is
Tan Lang is desire, and the classics do not treat that as a flaw. It is the first peach-blossom star, the star of appetite — for experience, for skill, for people, for more.
It is also the most versatile of the fourteen. Appetite applied to craft produces genuine range: the person who is good at an implausible number of things usually has this star working.
How it actually shows up
Wolves are socially fluent in a way that is hard to teach. They read a room fast, adapt to it fast, and are liked before they have done anything to earn it.
The tradition also links 贪狼 to the esoteric — the classical texts pair appetite with a pull toward mysticism, and in practice the same person who wants everything is often the one who takes the inner life most seriously.
What tests it
Scattering. Wanting all of it means starting all of it, and depth loses to breadth unless something forces a choice.
The classics single out one pairing: 贪狼 with 火星 or 铃星 is 火贪/铃贪, a sudden-fortune configuration — this star responds unusually well to pressure and unusually poorly to comfort.
